Happy New Year!
We said goodbye to the old and celebrated the arrival of 2010 at Smith Lake. We brought some "safe" fireworks with us from Tupelo. This has been a slow progression as Judd first refused to let us do anything more than sparklers. However, we always choose the fun and harmless fireworks, if there is even such a thing! We spent New Year's Eve shooting off Roman Candles, smoke bombs, and various other sparkling things! We returned home on New Year's Day and returned to our neighborhood Fireworks dealer for a repeat of the previous nights' goodies. We did the same thing that night and Mary Conlee is the one who squeals and laughs about each one. Cole has been promoted by his Dad to help with the lighting of the fireworks and this time, Cole got to hold his own "punk" in which to light each one. We were certainly happy about the New Year and enjoyed celebrating it...twice!

Merry Christmas, Y'all!
Christmas at our house this year was laid back and wonderful! Bubbe and Pop came over on Christmas Eve morning and we spent the day cooking and getting ready for Christmas. One of the most special times during the busy holiday season is the Christmas Eve service at church. Being with close friends and family is such a special way to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Everything that has kept us busy and preoccupied during the month of December is put on hold while we direct our thoughts to the real reason we celebrate Christmas. Christmas carols and scripture set the tone. The lights go out and the candles give light to the sanctuary during Silent Night. Once the service is over, we quickly deposit our candles at the front door of the church, hug our friends, and scurry home to get ready for Santa's arrival.

This year, we didn't make any homemade treats for Santa, but I think he understood! Bubbe brought some cookies over from Birmingham and we used those instead. Besides, we know how Santa likes to "nibble" at each house so he doesn't get a tummy ache. We did have plenty of reindeer feed for Rudolph and the others. Thankfully there was a lot of glitter in this batch because it was pretty foggy. Some nights, it can be a challenge getting the kids to bed, but not on Christmas Eve! The kids went straight to bed, but promised us it wasn't going to be an easy task of falling asleep. But who could sleep knowing that Santa was on his way?
It felt as though Judd and I had just fallen asleep when we awoke to Cole and Mary Conlee screaming with delight over their presents. Cole loved his electric scooter, Ben 10 toys, lego sets, Star Wars Jedi mind trainer, and Ripley's Believe it or Not and the Guiness Book of World Records books. But his favorite thing Santa brought and the ONLY thing he said he wanted was the self-inflating Whoopee Cushion. In fact, that is what he and Mary Conlee were howling about when they woke up the house at 6:45 a.m. I was a little horrified, but Judd assured me that Santa knew exactly what made little boys laugh. But what about what it does to Cole's sweet grandparents? Bubbe spent most of the morning hiding that thing from him. And she would have loved to have returned it to Santa, but that wasn't possible! Mary Conlee was so excited to see Molly, her new American Girl doll. She was going to be fast friends with Kit and Rebecca! She got many clothes and accessories for Molly. She also loved her electric keyboard. How thoughtful of Santa! He knows that there are times when MC's piano playing is interfering with Cole's homework or other things, so she is mobile and can carry the keyboard to her room. Did I mention that Santa included headphones with it? The only thing MC truly wanted was Aqua Sand, so Santa surprised her with the mermaid Aqua Sand kit and many other fun things!

Mary Conlee was SO glad that Santa remembered Brody with his very own Pedi Paws nail trimmer.
As usual, we all got more than we needed and much more than we deserved. Judd was finally given that Playstation 3 that he had always "held out" to buy. Bubbe and Pop said that the only thing they wanted for Christmas was Bama to win the National Championship. We couldn't tie that up with a bow and put it under the tree, but we did find some Bama-themed gifts for them! The best part of all was spending a quiet day with our family.
After lunch, Bubbe and Pop headed back to Birmingham and we spent the day revelling in our new toys! I even enjoyed riding through the neighborhood on Cole's scooter. Did Santa get this for him or for me? For dinner, we kept true to our long-standing tradition of eating dinner at the Waffle House. After I cooked ALL day for lunch and then sent home the leftovers with my parents, it's fun to go OUT to eat and Waffle House happens to be the only place open on Christmas besides the cinema. What a wonderful Christmas, y'all! Next year, meet us at the Waffle House.

Pensacola Christmas
On Cole's birthday, December 20th, we packed our things and headed down (farther south) to Pensacola...with a stop in Columbia, MS. We arrived in Pensacola that night, just in time for a big birthday dinner at Bob Bob and Mama Charlie's house. Cole enjoyed opening presents and sharing his new legos with cousin Mac.
We made sure to stop at one of our favorite places--Cordova Mall. There, the kids had their first experience in bungee jumping. Thankfully this was of the "upright" variety, not hanging by the feet! Both Cole and MC loved it!

Precious Moments
On our way to visit Judd's family in Pensacola right before Christmas, we made a "not so direct" stop in Columbia, Mississippi to visit some friends who have become so special to our family. Dr. Bryant Barnes and his wife, Cheryl, were serving at Calvary when we moved to Tupelo 13 years ago. They moved to Columbia almost 3 years ago, and we have missed them very much. What a special way to spend the last Sunday in Advent...at First Baptist Columbia and at lunch with the Barnes family. I hope this is a Christmas tradition we will continue for many years!

For Cole's 9th birthday party, we rented Joyner Pool. It was neat to be "under the bubble" and swim like a fish during the cold month of December! He had a great time hanging out with his school and church friends, and especially the old Parkway crew from last year...he misses them so much!

December School Happenings
Mary Conlee loved her pajama day Christmas party in Mrs. Marlin's room, but she especially loved getting to decorate her own gingerbread cookie! And as a surprise to the class, Mrs. Marlin's daughter, Caitlyn, brought her good friend and Miss. State Bulldog standout, Chad Bumphis, to the party. All the little boys were in awe of having a real superstar in their room! The little girls giggled as he walked around the room asking them questions. MC politely smiled and took a picture with him, planning on giving his autograph to her Bulldog Buddies, Causey and Bounds. As long as the Tide isn't playing, she pulls for the Bulldogs!
