Hey Cole and Mary Conlee and Judd,
This posting comes to you from 5000 miles from home. I am in Brussels. London was a lot of fun. I have been to a castle, visited some really big churches, and walked across the London and Tower Bridges. I saw the Queen's palace and watched a parade with her guards. I also had tea and scones at a fancy hotel.
Now I'm in Brussels where there are yummy waffles, chocolate, and fries. There is even a statue of a little boy peeing. Cole, you would laugh so hard if you saw it! Tomorrow, we are going to another town called Bruges. There I will be looking for some pretty lace to bring home to my little princess. On Monday, we are headed over to a little town in Germany called Monschau. And we will be leaving here on Wednesday for Paris.
I can't wait until Daddy and I can bring you here one day. I love you all very much and will be home this time next week.
Love always,
Mommy

Last Days of School
We've had one big week at Parkway! On Tuesday, Mary Conlee and her fellow Kindergarten pals had a fun filled day. Two inflatable water slides kept them busy most of the day. They enjoyed a picnic lunch and playing with their friends. We have had a wonderful year full of fun, friends, and lots of learning. Thanks, Mrs. Farned for being the best Kindergarten teacher!
Yummy...popsicles!

Cole and the other 2nd grade students had a graduation and awards celebration on Wednesday. That was followed by an afternoon on the water slides. I expected Cole and his friends to be lined up waiting for their turn down the slide, but instead they were more interested in being social butterflies--laying out on their towels! They loved squirting Mrs. Godwin with the water shooters. She was a good sport! He has had a great year this year and loves his teacher very much. I know he will miss being a Parkway Panda.

A baby bird update! A few weeks ago, we took a peek into Cole's bird nest that he and Judd made in scouts. There was a nest already built. We had forgotten about it until last night. When we peeked in to see if there were any eggs, we found some sweet babies!

Throwing Caution to the Wind
Well, the last time Judd left to go out of town for business, I booked a trip to Europe. I thought that would have taught him a lesson on not leaving town for a week. Today, Crab and I are exactly one week away from leaving! And now that Judd is in Dallas for a meeting, things are a little harem scarem around the house. Because I've been so focused on my trip, I may have let a few things slide right past me. I feel that the blog may be the best way to tell Judd what is going on at the homefront!
For starters, there's the incidence concerning the grounds. Many of you know how extremely particular Judd is with his yard. Notice I referred to it as "his." He painstakingly manicures it, cutting it in different directions each time for optimum growth. He reminds our guests not to drive on his grass as they are coming in and out of the driveway. He also reprimands those who unknowingly "walk" in the grass instead of using the sidewalk. While I was working on some of my packing yesterday, Cole came inside the house with an empty can of flourescent purple hair spray. I bought it on sale after Halloween, but I haven't found any use for it. Well, Cole decided to go out in our yard and spray all the "bad weeds," as he called them, flourescent purple. He also sprayed several ant beds. This was to keep Mary Conlee and me from getting near the bad stuff. What a sweet gesture from the current "man of the house!" I carried my camera with me as I went on tour with Cole to see his hard work. "Who are you going to send this to, Momma? Am I going to be in trouble with Daddy?" I assured him that all would be well with his Dad. I'm just hoping we get an afternoon rain shower or two before the REAL man of the house returns home!

ACHTUNG BABY!!!
Tonight, I took the kids to one of their favorite places to eat in Tupelo- Kyoto. We were so lucky to sit with a group of 7 ladies, who just happened to be members of the legendary Red Hat Society. Enough said. While we were waiting for our food to cook, Cole informed me that he wanted to try the Hibachi shrimp for dinner. Harmless, you may think. But I am HIGHLY allergic to shellfish and have kept my children a far distance from eating, touching, or even breathing the same air as the shrimp do! A few weeks ago, Cole tried one piece of popcorn shrimp and loved it. So, with Judd being out of town, tonight might not have been the best time for Cole to eat a plate of it. But God love him, he ate every bite and loved it! I'm not sure this was the best idea with Cole's graduation being tomorrow. I'm just glad we have three ER doctors who live a stone's throw from our house. I am putting all three of them on call tonight!
I don't know if I would eat that or not!

I don't know if I would wear that or not!

And speaking of graduation, we will definitely be missing Daddy tomorrow as we celebrate Cole's promotion to 3rd grade and to his new school. So hurry home, Judd. We are holding up the best we know how. Momma needs help getting ready for her trip to "Yerp," as Cole calls it. The yard may never be the same again. And furthermore, neither will the packing!

Recital Weekend
On Thursday and Friday, Mary Conlee had rehearsals for her ballet recital. At this age, they only have a 2 minute song...but it's my favorite thing to watch! She woke up extra early on Saturday morning, excited about her big day. She enjoys putting on lipgloss and wearing her dance costume, but she really loves getting to wear her hair in a bun! While we were walking into the Civic Auditorium before the recital, she said, "Mommy, I know you got me flowers, didn't you?" She loves walking into the dressing area and seeing flowers that were sent especially for her. This year, I signed the card from Mommy, Daddy, Cole, and Brody. But as soon as she saw Brody's name on there, she let out a squeal!!! "Brody got me some flowers," she exclaimed. Now we see who gets top billing.

My parents drove over from Birmingham early Sunday morning to spend the day with us. We enjoyed showering Bubbe with her late Mother's Day present and card. That afternoon, Mary Conlee had her piano recital. She began taking lessons in March and has fallen in love with it! I got to know her piano teacher, Linda Kinsey, when I went to Greece. She has a love for music and for children. She is the perfect fit for Mary Conlee. Many teachers will not take students until they are in the 2nd or 3rd grade. Having started lessons when I was 4 years old, it was important to me for Mary Conlee to begin as soon as she could. I have been so impressed with all the things Mrs. Kinsey has taught Mary Conlee in these past 2 1/2 months. Although she is the youngest and newest of Mrs. Kinsey's students, she felt right at home with the more seasoned students.
Mary Conlee played a song called "A Harp." She loved using the pedal on this piece, and she learned how to cross over with her hands! She and I also played a duet called "Wishing Well." Mrs. Kinsey invites any parent who can play the piano to play with their child at the recital. It was such a sweet moment to sit on the piano bench next to my little girl, playing a song together. It took me back to my childhood and the 12 years I took piano from my teacher, Sadie Murray. I can remember how much it was a drudgery to practice. My mom had to drag me indoors to play the piano, telling me that "practice makes perfect." Oh, how many times I heard that phrase! I was drug to lessons, recitals, and piano competitions. But now that I'm an adult, I am so glad they did. I am thankful that I can sit down and play a little Chopin, delve into some Disney tunes for Mary Conlee, and accompany my daughter her first piano recital. Thanks, Mom, Dad, and Granny for all the times you took me to lessons and waited in the car for me to finish. We dedicate our duet to you!

Little Ballerina
Today is Mary Conlee's 3rd ballet recital. She absolutely loves being a ballerina. She goes around the house singing and dancing... she must have gotten this from her Daddy! The first year, Mary Conlee was a little clown. And last year, she was a fairy--complete with magic wand. This year, the little ballerinas are different Disney princesses. MC's class is Ariel, the Little Mermaid. She loves dancing to Under the Sea! I didn't realize how much she had grown until I went back and looked at all her pictures. The biggest change? All her missing teeth! Mary Conlee lost her first tooth at Baskin-Robbins after the ballet recital last year. Since then, she has lost 6 teeth, and 5 BIG teeth are making their way in. Her smile looks so different! Our little ballerina is growing up!

Field Day
Friday was so much fun at Parkway! We had field day. The kids loved participating in potato sack races, balloon toss, dunking booth, big slide, and many other exciting games. The best part? Seeing their teachers compete in the same activities! The Opening Ceremony was a great way to get all the kids revved up for the day...how appropo that this year had a Nascar theme! Each class had a cute sponsor name and a car number.
This will be Cole's last week of school at Parkway. We are taking it all in! Mary Conlee is just thrilled to become a first grader. And Mom and Dad just hope we can make it through it all--graduation, awards ceremony, and end of the year celebrations. Summer...here we come!
